Since the early days, Bracebridge accommodations have catered to 'over-nighters' and seasonal visitors. When the primary method of arriving in Bracebridge was by train, great hotels such as the Queen Hotel, the Dominion, and the British Lyon, surrounded the downtown core. As the highways of Ontario opened up, slowly interest began to slip in these vastly popular grand hotels, and in time they began to disappear. Lakeside resorts gave way to world-class golf and hotel destinations, and the grand hotels of downtown Bracebridge gradually became store-fronts and apartments. Of course people still needed a place to stay and so the age of inns, and smaller hotels began. They offered more than just a place to sleep, and those early tourists to Bracebridge began to put our town on the map as time and time again they returned to the full-service and comfortable accommodations of town.
